Below are excerpts from the article: Chandeliers Get Enlightened. Now Big Fixtures Light Up Baths and Walk-In Closets. The chandelier, that dusty relic from Grandma's dining room, is getting a makeover. With homeowners looking to fill space in high-ceiling McMansions, makers are coming out with all kinds of twists for different rooms, from $1,200 leather chandeliers for a modern look to hanging baby-room fixtures decorated with pastel frogs. One outfit, Sisal Lighting, in Garrison N.Y. has an entire line of monkey chandeliers (including Gothic and Moroccan versions) and says sales are up 20% in the past year, while others are offering mini models meant for closets, Swarovski, the big European crystal maker, is getting into this, too, with its first-ever line now on display at Bergdorf Goodman in New York and some models costing $450,000. To some degree, makers and decorators say chandeliers are catching up to the changes in the rest of the lighting world. designers are also loosing up with more playful models, "people don't want anything run-of-the-mill".
